Food market regulator: Quarter of Russian food faked

MOSCOW, Jan 13 (PRIME) – About a quarter of Russian food is faked on a permanent basis, Alexei Alexeyenko, an aide to the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight head, said at the Gaidar Forum on Friday.

“The problem which brings us colossal losses and may bring even more is mass food falsification. A quarter of all food available on the market is fake, according to our spot checks,” the official said. “The government needs to take care of the situation and provide favorable conditions for quality food producers.”

He said that all types of food, except eggs, are falsified in Russia. “Food eggs are only faked in China, not with us,” he said.
